“Foothill Country, I know, was exhibited at the Ontario Society of Artists’ annual exhibition and perhaps in Montreal, too. In those days Toronto, Montreal and Ottawa were the only places an artist from the west could show paintings, especially an artist from a small town. My special interest in those days was in the intense light and the strength of the prairie scene.”
